Every time you learn a new character, its "stability" begins to decay. FSRS calculates three distinct variables: Difficulty, Stability, and Retrievability.

Tapping a multiple-choice button is an illusion of competence. To read with fluency, you must be able to produce the character from a vacuum.

Zhong Chinese enforces strict stroke-order handwriting. By engaging the motor cortex, you create high-definition mental models of characters that look similar.

Once calibrated, the system normalizes your acquisition speed. This creates a steady-state review load that takes minutes, not hours, ensuring you finish the curriculum without burnout.
04. Comprehensible Input
Reading Fluency
Vocabulary drills build the bricks. Reading is what teaches you to lay them in sentences. Without it, you can recognize a thousand characters and still freeze in front of a real paragraph.
From Word to Sentence
Zhong Chinese now includes original reading passages, written in-house to match the vocabulary and grammar of each lesson. You read the passage in Traditional Chinese, tap any character for an instant dictionary lookup, reveal the full translation if you need it, and rate your comprehension — Again, Hard, Good, or Easy.
Whole-passage scheduling calls for a different model than single-character recall. Zhong uses an adaptive scheduler tuned specifically for reading: the harder you rate a passage, the sooner it resurfaces; the easier, the longer it waits. Your reading queue reflects your actual comprehension, not a one-size-fits-all cadence.
05. The Curriculum
Curriculum Fidelity
Zhong Chinese is built specifically for the TOCFL vocabulary, and perfectly fits the Dangdai Chinese 當代中文課程 curriculum of the NTNU MTC.
We don't use generic word lists. Every character, example sentence, and audio file is mapped to the TOCFL and the books.
